Today, about 12 million Ethiopians live directly or indirectly from coffee cultivation. Coffee marketing is controlled by the Ethiopia Coffee Marketing Corporation (ECMC), which controls a large part of the export market. Yirgacheffe is one of the outstanding highland coffees from Ethiopia. It grows at altitudes of 1200 to 1900 m above sea level. The main cultivation area is in the region of the same name south of Sidamo. However, only about one third of the Yirgacheffe district's coffee cultivation is washed and sold as Yirgacheffe, the rest is processed dry and marketed as Sidamo Grade 4. The bean of Yirgacheffe is oval to round and of medium size.
