Strolling through the city of San Cristóbal Verapaz is like making a journey back in time to an ancient Mayan city. Incredibly bright colours predominate and the smell of the wood stoves floats in the air. After leaving the city, towards the lush green valleys of Alta Verapaz, you come to the farm Flor del Rosario, the German Horst Spitzke, who settled in Guatemala in 1961. Although he first planted coffee on the farm in 1988, his coffee became one of Guatemala's finest. His coffee took sixth place at the Guatemalan Coffee Internet Auction in 2002 and was the only one of the entire Alta Verapaz region to qualify. The coffee plantation is situated in a spectacular natural setting. The variety of flora and fauna makes it a real wonder of nature. One finds a huge wealth of flowers, including rchideen, cardamom and even the Monja Blanca, which is the national flower of Guatemala, when one penetrates deep into the 550 hectares of the farm of Don Horst. Deeper inside the property is a 100 metre deep natural spring waterfall which gives its name to the of "La Cascada", which means "The Waterfall" in Spanish. A few meters away from the main stream of the waterfall are small stone caves, which were created in millions of years by water erosion. The uniqueness of Horst Spitzke's coffees is in no way inferior to its farm. This coffee comes from a region that is notorious for the history of the natives and for its excellent coffee. Don Horst is a passionate and experienced coffee farmer who has been dedicating himself to his farm since 1988 in order to only Best of it to get and his coffee is probably the most acidic in the region.
