Kaffeerösterei Cupbeans, Michaela & Jens Schaffrinna Kuba Serrano Superior

Manufacturer product description

Cuba has been growing coffee since the 18th century. Until 1956 production increased steadily and reached a maximum quantity of 20,000 tons per year. In the following decades, after the revolution, annual production fell rapidly. Formerly large family-owned farms disappeared, along with experienced farmers and workers. Coffee production came to a virtual standstill and covered at most a small part of local consumption. In 1989, under the leadership of Raul Castro, an attempt was made to revive the coffee industry. Although it was possible to increase production again somewhat, it has not yet been possible to reach the old production quantities. Around 70% of the harvest is exported to Japan and France. The best qualities to date are shipped to Japan, including the world-famous Crystal Mountain. This speciality captivates with its fine bean appearance and a powerful, spicy cup with notes of milk chocolate, tobacco and nuts and very little acidity. This rarity comes from the same family as the most famous coffee, Jamaica Blue Mountain.
