Marcala is a region in southwestern Honduras and stands for exceptional coffee quality. It is a protected designation of origin, comparable to Champagne in France. The coffee farmers in this region have formed a cooperative (COMUCAP women's cooperative) in which each processing step of the green coffee is occupied by the individual farmers and monitored at the main headquarters. This makes it possible to trace the entire processing chain. Today the whole project comprises about 100 fincas ranging from 0.25 ha to 15 ha.
