In the 1920s, coffee seeds from the famous Blue Mountain were smuggled from Jamaica to Papua New Guinea and have since been planted there... Papua New Guinea is located just below the equator and its climate is therefore particularly suitable for the cultivation of high-quality coffee. Nevertheless, Papua New Guinea has only a very small share of the world market turnover. Coffee cultivation began here at the end of the 19th century. Some coffee connoisseurs believe that this coffee flourishes even better in Papua New Guinea due to the more fertile soil. The Sigri plantation comes from an altitude of 1300 to 1800 m above sea level. Its main cultivation area is on Mount Hagen and in the Poponetta region.
