Batangas stands for coffee with the name Barako, a variant of Liberica, which is cultivated in the area. The Liberica bean is rare - it accounts for only about one percent of total coffee production worldwide. In combination with the extraordinarily fertile soil around the volcano Taal and Malarayat, the mild climate and natural fermentation, the special drying processes make Batangas coffee an exceptional variety with rich and intense flavours. The aroma of Batanga Barako combines accents of dark chocolate, walnut, malt and blueberry with the fruitiness of guava and scallops. The bean has a rounded and full-bodied aroma with a hint of dried berries, tobacco and dark chocolate.
